Search engine marketing is a package of measures aiming at attracting visitors from search engines, in a most broad sense of meaning. Social networks, video hostings and other services also use search engines in their interface, and thus search engine marketing extends to them, too.
The basic directions of search engine marketing include:
- Contextual advertising, i.e. placing information in search engines via ads.
- Search engine optimization, activities of changing the object itself (website, webpage, PDF, video and other content) and external environment aiming at reaching advantageous positions in organic search results by specific key queries.
